Art Nouveau Plique a Jour Enamel Ruby and Diamond Ring, ca. 1900s
Art Nouveau Plique a Jour Enamel Ruby and Diamond Ring, ca. 1900s
Art Nouveau Plique-a-Jour Enamel Ruby and Diamond Ring, ca. 1900s
A beautiful Art Nouveau ring from the 1900s, centring a marquise shaped ruby and featuring beautiful gradient window-enamelled wings, suspending and surrounded by old-cut diamonds.
When held up to the light, the enamels appear as translucent windows stretched between the gold outlines of the design. This delicate enamelling technique, described as ‘plique-à-jour’ was known to Medieval and Renaissance goldsmiths, and underwent a revival in late 19th-century jewellery, for which the french jeweller Lalique is most famous for.
